Droid 2 Global: Gingerbread release date update and new features

After previously informing you about the official Gingerbread update for the Motorola Droid X smartphone, we now have similar news for those of you in possession of the Droid 2 Global handset, as Verizon has confirmed that the update is on the way for you soon as well.
Verizon hasn’t actually informed us when the update will be available, but an official document intercepted by Droid-Life shows evidence that the update is now ready, and the only thing that needs to happen now is for Verizon to push it out to handsets.
If you head over to Droid-Life, you’ll be able to see full details on what is included in the update. Aside from the interface changes you get from upgrading to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, key features also include a new download manager App, multi-touch key chording, dock icons, email and messaging fixes/enhancements, App and power management details, improved battery life via Bluetooth and much more.
If you have a Droid 2 Global, we strongly recommend you check out the change log for full information. It’s fair to say that the handset is pretty dated now, so this Gingerbread update couldnt have come at a better time. It may also sweeten the blow for those of you who don’t have the resources to upgrade to the sexy new Droid Bionic if and when it becomes available later on this Summer.
