We have some interesting news to bring you now, as a fresh report has revealed that Apple apparently has plans to release an iPhone 5 handset in the UAE before the end of the year. Not only that, but the iPhone 5 is said to have support for 4G LTE on one of the carriers in the country as well.
As most of you are well aware, carriers in the US notably Verizon and AT&T are staying silent on the possibility of an iPhone 5 release this Summer, but that hasn’t stopped whispers on developments for the device from happening overseas.
A prime example of this comes from carrier Etisalat who are based in the United Arab Emirates. According to their Chief Corporate Communication Officer Ali Al Ahmad, the iPhone 5 is definitely on course this year, and it could be coming to their network with 4G LTE support. Just check out the following quote from him as reported from Apple Insider:
“We are in talks with most smartphone manufacturers including Apple on the rollout of the 4G handset, iPhone 5 later this year. As the first telecom organisation to roll out the 4G network, LTE, in the Middle East, we have already started talking to them for the handsets and chipsets in them.”
Obviously nothing is concrete there, but he seems to know a lot more on the iPhone 5 than the general public. Since he is classified as a senior exec for this carrier, it’s also surprising that he has clearly labeled the device as the iPhone 5 ‘with 4G’ support. So what can we take from this?
Well, depending on how credible his statement is, it could be the first solid evidence that Apple will debut a 4G LTE iPhone device this fall. If that happens, it makes perfect sense to roll the device out at the same time as the iOS 5 update as well. Those of you who were asking ‘why do we have to wait until September for iOS 5′ – this could be the sole reason for that.
However, as previously speculated, will this ‘4G supported’ iPhone be compatible with Verizon’s network, or just AT&T’s network? Hopefully we’ll be able to find more pieces of the puzzle soon. Let us know what you make of the quote above.
