When we revealed details regarding the PS Vita price and release date earlier this week we hadn’t heard anything regarding whether it would be region locked or region free, well Sony’s vice president of worldwide studios Europe, Michael Denny, may have let the cat out of the bag.
According to IGN Denny has said that to his knowledge Vita will be region free, obviously this does not 100% confirm that it won’t be region locked buy given the fact that the PlayStation 3 is region free it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if the Vita followed suit.
Obviously for now we won’t take this news too seriously, but when we hear more on the matter we will keep you posted. If Sony‘s next-generation portable does turn out to be region free it is great news for fans of Japanese titles which would otherwise not be playable in North America or Europe.
The Vita’s main rival, the Nintendo 3DS, is region locked and when you take into account the amount niche Japanese titles which will be arriving for Nintendo’s latest handheld you have to admit that this a bad thing, could the Vita gain a new selling point be region free? We would love to hear your thoughts on the matter.
