If the previous details, teaser trailer and information on the pre-order bonuses just weren’t enough to whet your appetite for the much-anticipated Call of Juarez: The Cartel game, then you’ll be pleased to know that even more details have been revealed during the E3 2011 event recently.
As Susan Arendt over on the escapistmagazine.com website recently noted, the Call of Juarez: The Cartel game not only sees players having to cooperate with their team mates, but it also has them competing against them as well. This is what the developers have called ‘co-opetition.’
Those of you that have read our previous articles will know that the upcoming game brings the Call of Juarez series into the modern day setting. The game features 3 main characters: LAPD officer Ben McCall (a descendant of the McCalls featured in earlier games), FBI agent Kim Evans and DEA agent Eddie Guerra.
Players can choose to either play the game solo with AI companions, or online with two of their friends. The team must work together in order to work their way through over a dozen missions. Each of the three characters has their own personal perspective and backstory.
What makes the game more interesting is the dirty little secrets that each of the three characters are hiding. For example, Kim lost her brothers to gang violence, while Eddie has a serious gambling problem. The obvious objective of all characters is to take down Cartel leader Juan Mendoza.
Depending on the character you choose to play the game with, you’ll receive a different set of objectives and challenges such as picking up a package or maybe meeting an informant on the quiet. The trick is that players have to perform these set tasks without their partners finding out.
