With the level of smartphone now more competitive than ever before between Android and Apple iOS devices, it’s hard to tell who will remain at the top of the market in the future. However today we have news that suggests the majority of developers choose to manufacture apps for Google’s Android over Apple’s iOS.
This news could point to the future for Android smartphones being a more successful one than for Apple’s smartphones. The news was revealed from a study called Developer Economics 2011. The study showed that the percentage of developers coding for Android is up from 59% in 2010 to 67%.
Meanwhile those developing for iOS is only 59% despite that also being up from last year’s 50%. Microsoft lags behind both of them however and though it would like to consider itself the third horse in this race it has a long way to go as its share of developers is only 36% a decline from previous 39%.
When it comes to total apps available so far this quarter however Apple still have the most with almost 400,000 apps compared to Android’s 176,000. This could also explain why developers are now building for Android as they may already have an app for Apple.
