No iOS 5 download and iPhone 5: Consumer disappointment

By Updated on

The main keynote speech for this year’s WWDC event is officially over, and although we received some most welcome information regarding iOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion, we can’t help but feel a little bit disappointed that Apple didn’t deliver further.

By this we’re obviously talking about the fact that we didn’t see Steve Jobs unveil a new iPhone 5 device on stage. Before you go out and say it, we’re obviously aware that it was heavily speculated that there wouldn’t be an iPhone 5 at the event, but we still clinged on to the hope of one big surprise, as we’ve seemingly forgotten what it feels like to have a ‘genuine’ WWDC surprise after previous leaks.

Another disappointing factor of WWDC 2011, was although Apple unveiled iOS 5 and it’s impressive looking features to the world, it’s slightly frustrating that users have to wait so long for the download. The new software will be released sometime in Fall, so just after Summer and another iritating fact is that developers get to sample iOS 5 right now as long as they have a developer account with Apple.

We would have loved it if Apple blew everyone away by saying ‘and iOS 5 will be available..from DAY ONE’, but sadly it wasn’t to be this time. Let us know your thoughts on this. How did WWDC pan out for you – are you disappointed too about no iPhone 5 and no iOS 5 download?

I am very disappointed in iOS5.  The ‘new’ features mentioned will be easily added to Android and WP7 devices.  I just feel that iOS is becoming stale, Apple really needed to take a big jump with this OS, but it just looks as though it’s trying to take over the Rim market and is acting as though Android and WP7 are not a threat.  This was the mistake Nokia made, it ignored Apple when the iPhone was released and concentrated on competing with Blackberry, now Nokia are possibly facing going out of business if their WP7 deal fails.  Apple have also concentrated on the Blackberry market, when this market is already as good as dead.  The Android with new Nvidia chipsets will be out in the fall, so will WP7 Mango – I’m sorry but both of the alternative OS’s are better than Apple iOS.  iCloud – could have been so much more.  I’m not impressed.  Oh and for all you Apple fanboys – just try a new Android phone, or WP7 device, hang on to them for a week and you’ll see what I mean, iOS just looks, feels and acts dated in comparison.
