In perhaps a surprising twist of events at E3, the highly anticipated Battlefield 3 game failed to make an appearance at Microsoft’s E3 keynote. EA’s game was briefly highlighted at Sony’s press conference instead with the announcement that the PS3 will get an exclusive not available on the Xbox 360.
For those of you who missed Sony’s keynote, Jack Tretton announced the following details with regards to Battlefield 3 exclusive PS3 content:
”EA is using the extra storage capacity of Blu-Ray to add a second game, Battlefield 1943 to the disc. That extra and exclusive content is a critical differentiator for PlayStation.”
Considering that EA didn’t show Battlefield 3 at Microsoft’s keynote, one might interpret that as saying EA are more concerned about supporting Battlefield 3 on the PlayStation, just like Infinity Ward and Microsoft are for Modern Warfare 3.
In another interesting admission from Tretton, the PS chief also revealed that EA has plans to support the upcoming Sony PS Vita. Those comments came straight after the Battlefield 3 announcement, so prospective Vita owners will secretly be hoping he is hinting of a possible Battlefield title on the handheld there – that would be immense.
What are your thoughts on the Battlefield 3 PS3 exclusive? Owners will probably say that some exclusive DLC maps would have been much better, but you can’t really argue with a free game that isn’t included on the Xbox 360 version. Free is free at the end of the day.
Does this make your decision to pick up the PS3 version very easy? On a side note, don’t forget to check out our information on EA’s upcoming alternative to COD Elite, called Battlelog.
