Apple have recently been accusing Samsung of copying their designs with its products, and last week requested the court to make Samsung hand over samples of the Galaxy S 2, Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1, Infuse 4G and Droid Charge. Now in a further twist Samsung request an iPad 3 and iPhone 5 pre-release.
Nilay Patel of Thisismynext is reporting that Samsung are claiming that they need to see the iPhone 5 and iPad 3, so lawyers can look for any similarities so they can get ready for any more action from Apple. This comes just a short time after a judge told Samsung to hand over pre-production samples of its models.
The difference is the products Samsung are requesting to see haven’t even been announced yet by Apple. The products which the court made Samsung hand over only Apple’s outside lawyers are allowed to look at, no one from Apple itself.
Samsung are requesting to have a look at the “the final, commercial versions” of the next iPhone and iPad by June 13, or if they are not available the latest current version. But the thing is Samsung don’t know for sure that Apple will actually be releasing any such products. Apple with their requests didn’t ask for anything which hadn’t been announced. The company has agreed that only its lawyers can look at Apple’s products.
The two companies had previously held discussions for about a year before negotiations broke down and the courts were brought in. Since the court actions began there hasn’t been any useful dialogue between the companies, so that means things have been at stalemate for a long time. But one thing is for sure that no one is planning on backing down.
