Modern Warfare 3 has improved engine, are Battlefield 3 gamers worried?

By Updated on

Most of you have probably already seen it, but for those of you that haven’t, Activision and Infinity Ward have just shown off the very first gameplay cinematic trailer for Modern Warfare 3. That was a while ago, and now you’ll be pleased to hear that we have some more good news for those of you planning to pick the game up on November 8th.

Infinity Ward’s community head Robert Bowling has just revealed a bit of a bombshell, in the fact that Modern Warfare 3 actually uses an improved engine, compared to the one used for Modern Warfare 2. Here is what he replied to a user on Twitter when asked if there is a new engine for Modern Warfare 3 or not:

”@Sebianoti We haven’t gone into detail on the engine yet but we’ve moved beyond the MW2 engine and added a lot of cool stuff for #MW3”

That means that Modern Warfare 3 has a new engine of some sort after all, even if it hasn’t been made from the ‘ground up’ so to speak, such as the Frostbite 2.0 engine from EA DICE. And judging by the trailer itself, it certainly does look as if Infinity Ward’s engine improvements has paid dividends to the overall outcome in terms of visuals compared to MW2.

It looks very impressive, and we’re hoping we hear some more information in detail on Infinity Ward’s upgraded engine soon. We want to hear your thoughts on this, both from Modern Warfare players and Battlefield players. Which engine looks more impressive?

Did I watch the same trailer?  It’s the same engine.  They made some “modifications” to it, but it’s still DX9 and can’t compete with DICE’s FB2 on Battlefield 3.  just look at how flat the water is, how lame the sky looks, any ropes (or other items that should be curved), or the textures themselves…they’re all the same as previous MW titles…there’s just more garbage scattered about the map.  Every new CoD since CoD4 has been the same engine  with more scattered garbage…this just continues the trend.  They already said they’re not using a new engine, and the trailer confirms it.

How does this compare to bf3? simple. It doesnt.  BF3 has full destruction, micro and macro, bigger maps, bigger booms, more players online, and the textures and graphics STILL look 10000x better than mw3.  Frostbite 2 has to pull tons more than cods engine, and it does it in style.

People still cannot read between the lines. If Battlefield 3 gains the same hype as Call of Duty, money-grubbing CEOs will begin to take over the company; ultimately milking the series as Activision did since the first modern warfare. If you honestly believe that this could never happen, you’re oblivious to the world around you. For Battlefield’s sake, I hope that Modern Warfare 3 “technically” wins so that DICE can continually strive to make a better game, and so that the series will never be milked.

Really Alan?……Yet again many readers can see the bias you have towards the COD franchise.
In agreement with Lucas and Nike on this one. A little more research reveals that the MW2 engine was tweaked to release a little more power out of it. Not really a new engine.

Which looks better? I’d still go for Frostbite 2.0
Till the COD series starts to embrace destruction enabled by the player and not scripted events,  comparisons between the two are not applicable.

Too bad that these games arn’t 39 bucks each that’s a more realist value of each and most people well then buy both.

LOL, MW3 does not have a new game engine, its the same as was used for COD4,5, 6, 7, 9.  Wow thats a lot of really bad games, lol.

Remember when COD4 came out, hailed as the most photo-realistic shooter to date?  Then they sit on the exact same game engine for the last 3 years, releasing games twice a year which only equate to DLC as far as changing or improving anything in any way.

Or sure color something red that was gonna be grey and you’ve improved your graphics, lol.

COD4 ran at a native resolution of 600p, well below 720p, guess what?  So does every other COD game since.  Who wants to bet that MW3 still wont even be 720p????  Due to same limited game engine.

Oh sure they can remove some of their inefficient code and replace with something slightly better, but IW and Hactivision will never show innovation as long as their rehashes of one game keep selling 10 million copies each.

Play COD and ruin the world of shooters from now till infinity, or have some self respect and back developers who truely want to give you more, and make advancements in every single “new” game.

BF3 at 30FPS is highly superior to COD8 at 60FPS due to the resolution, detail, destruction, and physics.
