Each year we know that Apple will launch a new iPhone, and there is always a debate about what they will call their latest smartphone. The smart money is now on the 4S; it had been assumed that Apple would call it the iPhone 5G, but that looks as though that will not come until next year. We already know that the 2011 model will have a spec bump, but we do not know what it will look like. It is this that prompts the question, what’s in a new design?
Usually we have no clue as to what a new iPhone will look like, but last year was an exception due to the fact that an engineer left one in a bar. In the past we have seen that phone makers have worked so hard in getting the hardware right, that the design is just an afterthought. However, Apple has always been different, but that does not mean that they always get it right.
Let’s take the iPhone 4 as a prime example, when the handset was leaked to the world a majority of us complained that it was not keeping with Apple’s often-sleek design. To some the 4th-generation model was a little too square and assumed that the leak was a hoax. Well a few months later we found that Apple had gone for that boxy route.
What made us laugh was the fact that those who had complained about the design lapped it up and has now made the iPhone 4 the most popular handset to date. We cannot understand why that is, maybe we just get caught in the Apple trance every time a new device is launched?
We can be certain that the iPhone 5G will have a radically new design compared to previous models, but what we cannot tell you is if it will be with us this year or next? Do you believe that the iPhone 5G – if that’s what it will be called – will get a totally new look?
