HTC Thunderbolt Update Leaked, Brings Android 2.3 Gingerbread

If you have been looking forward to the release of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the HTC Thunderbolt you are probably wondering when it will arrive, well a leaked ROM has shown up on the internet which if nothing else at least shows that the proper release is under development.

We do not recommend installing the leaked ROM, however if you understand the risks associated with this you can download the update for yourself here, we have checked quite a few forums and so far no-one seems to have been brave / stupid enough to try it out.

The proper Android 2.3 update should bring increased performance and lower power consumption, also like all Gingerbread updates a new and improved copy and paste solution will be available and the UI will have been tweaked, chances are in the background there will be some minor security improvements and bug fixes.

HTC has still not officially announced Gingerbread for the Thunderbolt, therefore we will have to keep you posted as and when we hear more, check out IntoMobile for some further information regarding the update.

Were you brave enough to try out the new ROM? If so, would you recommend it to others?

Tried it out last night. Seems to run a lot smoother along with some added features. There are a few bugs, but besides that it awesome. Can't comment about battery life yet.

If you are brave enough to install Android 2.3 Gingerbread and find many of your current programs no longer work you will then realize you should have waited. The only way I would do this is if I had a lost phone replaced and then somehow the lost phone resurfaced. I certainly would not install Android 2.3 Gingerbread on any phone I was relying on.
