A few days ago we announced that the Netflix streaming service had become available for select Android handsets, including the HTC Incredible and the EVO 4G. Now we have some more exciting news, as we’ve just heard that both Netflix and Miramax have recently signed a multi-year agreement.
As Vlad Savov over on the engadget.com website recently noted, the agreement enables Netflix to stream movies from Miramax’s extensive library. As from June, movies such as Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, The English Patient and hundreds more will be added to Netflix’s Watch Instantly catalog on a rotating basis.
This will in fact be the very first time that Miramax movies have been available via a digital subscription service. The Netflix / Miramax agreement was last rumored back in March, with reports suggesting a $100 million price tag and a five-year term as the likely parameters to close the deal.
All the movies available will be able to be watched on multiple platforms, including mobile phones, tablets, computers and TV. The new partnership means that Netflix will gain a variety of movies that collectively have a total of 284 Academy Award nominations across 83 films, with a total of 68 wins.
Other Miramax films on their way include Bad Santa, Shakespeare in Love, Chasing Amy, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Piano and Cold Mountain. Are you an existing Netflix customer?
