Nintendo 3DS Firmware Update: More Details Revealed

By Posted 11 May 2011, 21:48

A few weeks ago we began hearing reports, which suggested that Nintendo was planning on releasing a new firmware update for the Nintendo 3DS. Although details were pretty scarce at the time, we did discover that the update would provide users with access to the eShop.

However, according to an article by Thomas Worthington over on the gamerzines.com website, a recent Famitsu report appears to have revealed a few more details about the much-awaited firmware update, which as expected is due to go live at some point this month.

The recently revealed details – which were translated from international website The Magic Box – appear to give hints at some of the eShop’s launch content. Not only will the firmware update include the eShop, but it will also provide the functionality to import DSi Ware content from the DSi to 3DS.

A lot of the titles mentioned are most likely going to be Japan-only day one software, although some of the games mentioned will see a worldwide launch. Among the confirmed 3DS Ware launch titles are Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version (aka Rockman Dash 3 Prologue).

Meanwhile, 3D classics are said to include Excitebike, Xevious and the NES classic, The Legend of Zelda. Virtual Console titles will reportedly include Game Gears, Gameboy Color, Gameboy and PC Engine favorites such as Columns, Sonic & Tails 2 and Super Mario Land.
