Apple loves to keep things close to their chest when it comes to their products, but that has not stopped us wondering about the iPhone 5 price speculation and Sprint connectivity. These are two things that we will not know until Steve Jobs decides to share with us, but not at WWDC, as it has been every year; It looks as though we will have to wait until September.
Let us discuss the Sprint issue first. As you know AT&T is not alone in the iPhone world anymore, as Verizon started to supple them to customers in January this year. This just leaves Sprint and T-Mobile from the big four, and it looks as though there is more chance of the latter doing a deal with Apple with AT&T if the takeover deal goes though.
We do not expect Apple to get into bed with Sprint anytime soon, maybe one day, but not with the iPhone 5. We still have to wonder why they do not open it up to all carriers, this seems to be working very well in the UK, and has certainly increased sales figures.
The price is yet another subject that is of interest to you. We can remember that the price for the iPhone 4 on contract was the same as the iPhone 3GS the year before. However, if you wanted to buy the new handset contract-free, then there was a price increase.
Apple could do the same and increase the price for the fifth-generation iPhone this year, but then they face the worry of pricing themselves out of the market. This will be something that they will not want to do, as they know that they have a constant struggle with Android. There is one thing that we know for certain, Apple will now follow how Android handsets gets updates, and that is with OTA instead of using iTunes.
How much will you be prepared to pay for the iPhone 5?
