T-Mobile G2X: Official Android 2.3 Gingerbread Release Date Update

By Updated on

If you are already in possession of a T-Mobile G2X, or currently have one on pre-order, we have some excellent news for you. T-Mobile has just confirmed that users will not have to wait long for the official upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

For those of you that are unaware, the 1Ghz dual-core processor ships with Android 2.2 Froyo, but T-Mobile always insisted that Gingerbread would come soon after release. It now looks like they are sticking to their word, with the following Twitter update, as reported from TmoNews:

”@thephilbert Gingerbread is coming to the G2x soon. You won’t have to wait long.”

The company also confirmed that they were already testing Gingerbread before the G2X launched, and that’s the main reason why users will not have to wait long for the update. Just how long though? We’re hoping that they are talking about a few weeks wait, rather than months.

With that good news aside, it’s nice to see T-Mobile directly responding to questions about future software updates, and it’s certainly a contrast to users of Samsung handsets who are often pulling their hair out in frustration over lack of communication about their respective updates – Gingerbread for the Samsung S for example.

Do you already have a G2X? If so, let us know your overall impressions of the device so far and your thoughts on T-Mobile’s quick response to the Gingerbread update.

The G2X is fantastic, I bought one today and the thing is lightning fast. There is *NO* wait time with the android system itself and apps are blazing too. Definitely worth the $200.

Though if you can manage to wait until June, the HTC Pyramid is supposed to be even faster, so make of that what you will.

Lets put it this way, I gave up my iphone4 for the g2x. I would say that there is no other phone better than the iPhone. But then the g2x released & that went out the door. Best phone I have had. I have had android before & I really wasn’t impressed, espicially with the lagginess delay on text. But wow g2x evolutionized the android scene l..amazing LOL

My G2x came in the mail the other day. Love it!, the screen is so responsive. The gyroscope is VERY sensitive (need for speed shift kicks butt). The 4G reception is also exceptional, I'm getting 4G where I previously barely got 3G. I do notice a slight lag when browsing the android market while downloading an app or two, but I am expecting this to be resolved once gingerbread is out due to better dual-core support. The touch response one the keyboard takes a little getting used to, i.e. clicking to many letters while trying to hit the next letter and have to delete, but there is swype which I am getting used to. The nvidia game market though small is really cool. The screen resolution is also amazing. Speakers are great, I wish it came with a micro hdmi -to- hdmi cable. I have also noticed when the phone is on and you have it plugged in a charger and you shut the phone off while still plugged in it doesn't seem to charge, I have to remove the plug and re-seat it then it charges, but again, gingerbread might fix this issue. The camera / flash is very good, better then my old exilim!

It's a bit buggy. It's not as fast as I'd hoped. I think it's the nicest handset I've used. LCD display with Gorilla Glass. Good functionality. Android is the SHiZzLe!
I think the Gingerbread release will straighten out most of the bugginess. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
    Great phone!!

Blazzing fast!! There is nothing official released in the US market that is faster then this phone. I switched from a Samsung Vibrant 3G, and I felt the difference in speed the very first day. Easily twice as fast as the Vibrant, even when I installed many apps in it. One drawback of the phone is that the speakers ABSOLUTELY ARE HORRIBLE!!! I can't believe LG made such a wonderful device, and put such crappy speakers!!!

I finally joined the 21st century and upgraded from old G1 to the G2X a couple of weeks ago. Love it!

    Only 2 real annoyances:
    1) In Seattle I rarely get more than 1 bar sig str @4g.
    2) The screen washes out pretty fiercely in direct sunlight. But in Seattle this really isn't an issue all that often.

This phone is insane, got psx4droid and it is insanely fast loving it, also I asked around although there are plenty of complaints out there i can’t say I have one as of yet. Gorilla glass is the bomb!
