A few weeks ago we informed you about a leaked Gingerbread update for the Motorola Droid X, but now we’re pleased to confirm that Motorola and Verizon have now started to roll out the official update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread OTA.
Users have been sending in messages on the DroidXForums board, stating that they have now received an OTA message from Verizon, telling them that an update to 4.5.588 is now available, as reported from BGR.
While the update build number may be a bit misleading, we can tell you that it’s the official Gingerbread update we’re dealing with here – which is pretty impressive from both Motorola and Verizon for getting this out to users fairly quickly. Perhaps the fact that they knew leaked builds were out there in the open, made them speed up the process considerably.
Providing you haven’t already updated to Gingerbread via other methods, you should look forward to seeing the OTA notification at any moment. If you have already had it, let us know the status of your handset after updating – is everything in order?
You can view feedback from other users attempting to install this at the DroidXForums here. We’ll update this, when we have a full list of change notes from the update.
