If you are a fan of space exploration, today is a pretty big day in the calendar. April 12th marks the event in which Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin was the first human to visit outer space in 1961. Google has too gotten in on the act by celebrating with a Yuri Gagarin themed Google Doodle.
If you head to Google’s homepage now, you’ll see that the search page giant has included another animated Doodle, with a bright design featuring a picture of Gagarin himself in his space gear. If you hover over the Doodle itself, you’ll briefly see a small animation of his Vostok spacecraft launching into space, although you’ll need to refresh the page if you want to watch it again.
Are you a fan of Yuri Gagarin – how much did you learn about him in class? Depending on where you are at the moment, you may not see the Doodle yet, but as soon as the clock ticks past 12, it will be visible for everyone.
You may also be interested in a film which First Orbit are releasing in celebration of Yuri Gagarin’s journey into space. The film will include footage and real audio from Gagarin himself during the events of April 12 1961, so it’s a great way to brush up on your history if you previously are not too familiar with the event. Head to their YouTube channel here – there’s a few videos already, but a new video is meant to be releasing on April 12th. We’ve included the main one for you below.
