The Amazon Kindle and other eReaders have become extremely popular devices, as having your collection of books in one place is really convenient. Amazon’s Kindle has probably been the most popular device, and a new version has been announced for a lower price of $114.
The Kindle With Special Offers will cost you $25 less than the base model currently available, but there is one catch, owners will have to view ads according to Joseph Galante of Bloomberg. The new device will be available from Amazon’s site, and retailers Best Buy and Target beginning on May 3.
Since it was first released in 2007 costing $399 the Kindle has been Amazon’s most popular product, and it is thought will bring the company $5.42 billion this year alone. If you don’t want ads the entry model Kindle costs $139.
The first batch of ads will be General Motors Buick and Procter & Gamble’s Olay skin products. Amazon will also be running some ads which include offering owners a $10 gift card for $20 worth of merchandise. They will also be offering the chance to get fifty percent off a Roku streaming player.
Eventually Amazon will replace its own ads with promotions from other companies, and Amazon has been working with advertisers to make sure ads don’t interfere with reading. The 25$ discount seems only a small drop considering you are then met with ads on your device. We will have to wait and see if consumers think it’s enough of a drop to buy this version of the Kindle.
