Nintendo 3DS: Gamers wanting refunds due to illness refused

My colleague Alan Ng reported to you late last month that owners of the Nintendo 3DS were complaining about headaches and dizziness, now the problems seem to be growing. In the UK there are reports that owners who have found the console making them ill, and are having trouble getting refunds on the device.

Jane Hamilton from The Sun is claiming that the problem with the 3DS has seen record returns levels with thousands complaining of headaches and dizziness. But when customers have returned to retailers to get a refund many have been refused full refunds.

One father played the new console with his son but became ill after playing for only three minutes, but when he returned to his local GAME store he was refused a refund. They later offered him £176.99, which was £30 less than what he originally paid 24 hours earlier.

He was also out of pocket because of the games he had purchased for the device. The Nintendo 3DS works by flashing separate images into each eye, thus creating the 3D image. Retailer GAME is currently offering refunds for £50 under retail price, HMV are giving full refunds but only until Thursday.

Nintendo have said the console is not suitable for the under sevens, and owners should not play for longer than thirty minutes without turning the 3D function off. But isn’t the whole idea of the console to play in 3D mode?

I have had the dilemma recently with my seven year old son who wanted a 3DS to replace his ageing DS Lite. After much deliberation I decided to buy him the DSi XL which he is well happy with. Like any new piece of tech though any problems will always grab the headlines, and the ones who are enjoying the new console just get on and play.

Have you had any problems using the 3DS?

None of the retailers are offering refunds, they are doing trade ins. The article has been changed on the Sun website as HMV complained.

MY DAUGHTER HAS THE 3DS AND BOTH HER AND MYSELF HAVE SPENT QUITE SOME TIME PLAYING THE AUGEMENTED REALITY AND RETAIL GAMES.NEITHER OF US HAVE EXPERIENCED ANY KIND OF NAUSEA, HEADACHES OR SICKNESS.I'M QUITE SURE ANY SUCH PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN SUFFERED BY A VERY SMALL MINORITY, THE REST OF THE PEOPLE WANTING TO RETURN THE CONSOLE FOR A REFUND ARE PROBABLY USING THIS AS A GOOD EXCUSE TO GET A REFUND ON SOMETHING THAT WAS BOUGHT ON IMPULSE ,A BIT TOO EXPENSIVE FOR GAMES AND DOESN'T QUITE MEET THEIR EXPECTATIONS.I PERSONALLY THINK NINTENDO HAVE PRODUCED A TRULY BRILLIANT PIECE OF GAMING TECHNOLOGY AND HAVE GIVEN PERFECTLY ADEQUATE WARNINGS .
