It’s that time of the year again when people start getting excited about Apple’s next iPhone release, but what do you think Apple will call their 5th-generation iPhone? Today we will look at some possible names and ask you what you think.
Let’s start with the obvious choice which is iPhone 5, whilst this name does make sense we can’t help but think that this only suits a completely redesigned smartphone, if it features the same physical design as iPhone 4 with upgraded specs we don’t think that that justifies a completely new name, do you?
If the next-gen iPhone features the same design as the iPhone 4 but connects to 4G networks it could be called the iPhone 4G or iPhone 4GS, this name explains the smartphone’s capabilities whilst clearly stating that the design has not changed hugely since the iPhone 4 release.
One name which we doubt will be used is iPhone HD, obviously this would suggest that this generation iPhone featured much better HD capabilities than the iPhone 4, perhaps 1080p capture and 1080p playback features, but this name in our opinion doesn’t fit in with how Apple name their products.
There is a chance that the 5th-gen iPhone will be a smaller more basic smartphone, this could be a serious contender in the mid-end market and could be feature a smaller design, therefore it could be called the iPhone Nano.
One final option is to call it the iPhone 3D, obviously this would need 3D visuals along with 3D capture, however the ’3D’ name might not be favored as it could confuse people who think that the ’3′ hints at a 3rd-generation iPhone.
So then, what do you think the 2011 iPhone should be called? We have set up a simple poll below, please answer the question and leave us a comment below explaining why you chose what you chose.
