We told you earlier that Apple have announced the dates for its annual WWDC event. This is the time of year that Apple normally showcases its new smartphone but doubts are growing this will be happening this time.
Reports are now saying that there will be no iPhone 5 at the WWDC 2011 event, with 2012 being touted as the possible date, according to an article on AppleInsider by Katie Marsal. A Chinese website is claiming people close to Apple’s supply chain, are saying the company hasn’t even started to order components for the next iPhone.
This means the device might not make it for Apple’s 2011 financial year, and probably slip into the 2012 financial year. Apple’s 2011 financial year finishes on September 24, so any new handset may not see the light of day before the 2011 holiday season. iPhone 5 for Christmas anyone?
It is thought that Apple will be concentrating on building its customer base with its CDMA handset, which only launched in February. The report also says that Apple has not yet decided about the design of the new handset, and is still pondering an aluminum back.
There has been some who are saying there won’t be any new hardware at the 2011 WWDC event, and instead will be concentrating on software. Having no new iPhone released for a while makes sense in a way, as they have only just released the iPhone 4 on the Verizon network.
Many people will be disappointed if a new iPhone is not released in June, especially those who are due an upgrade. But maybe we might see the white iPhone 4 finally become available. Will you be disappointed if no new hardware is announced at WWDC 2011 in June?
