Back at the beginning of February we saw the launch of News Corporation’s much anticipated iPad-only newspaper application, The Daily. At the time it was only released in the United States, but we’ve now received word that it will be making its way to the UK and Europe very soon.
According to Dan Sabbagh over at the guardian.co.uk website, Rupert Murdoch’s The Daily app will be arriving in the UK and Europe within the next few months. The app’s UK release depends on when Apple’s new online subscription model becomes available here.
Jon Miller, the chief digital officer of News Corporation, spoke at the Abu Dhabi Media Summit and said that The Daily would become available in western Europe in the not too distant future. When asked if that meant the app would be arriving in the first half of 2011, Miller replied yes.
There have been suggestions that Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp would also be creating a UK-specific edition of The Daily app, but this would possibly be in the future. The Daily has been available as a free trial in the United States up until now, but users will now have to pay 99 cents a week / $39.99 a year.
What do you think about The Daily being made available in the UK and Europe?
