With 2011 being described by many people as being the year of the tablet, it seems that the technology and advancements with these devices will escalate beyond this year and Apple with be playing a huge role accounting for a majority of these devices sold.
Reports suggest that the sales of tablet PCs are predicted to reach the 60 million mark this year and Apple will account for over half them. This would also make them the leading supplier of touchscreens in the market, most of which feature on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
According to a source in the article by Ben Camm-Jones at Macworld tablets are the ‘fastest growing application for touchscreens.’ Most of which use the multi-touch feature first demonstrated by Apple.
In the future it is predicted that other companies competing with Apple for dominance will have caught up, but these predictions say it won’t happen until 2016. That’s four years away so in the meantime it seems that Apple’s iPad 2 and iPhone 5 releases as well as the releases over the next few years should see them maintain the leading role in the industry.
