You may remember this phone leaking in various advertisements a few weeks ago, but today, T-Mobile has just made things official with their Sidekick 4G handset. It will be built by Samsung and we have a list of specs to give you as well as details on when it will be out.
T-Mobile’s press release confirms that the Sidekick 4G will be available sometime ‘this Spring’, and that Samsung will be building the ‘stylishly good looking’ handset (their words, not ours).
It’s called the 4G as it will run on T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network and it will be available in two colors – either matte black or pearl magenta. Specs include a 3.5-inch tilt touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboard, a 1 GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor and a 3 megapixel camera, yes we did say only 3. It also features a front camera though, which will make use of QIK video chat.
Obviously, the specs aren’t as premium as what you’d get on say the LG Optimus 2X, but previous Sidekick owners will know that this handset is still a pretty big deal. You can sign up for more information on the official website site, where there’s also more photos of the device. You can read the press release over at Engadget here if you’re interested.
What are your thoughts on this phone? Is there room for a new Sidekick device in 2011 or do you think the social-media based phone is outdated?
