Since the announcement of the iPad 2 there has been a feature that has been grabbing just as much interest as the tablet itself, which is its innovative new companion the Smart Cover. We previously brought you news of what the smart cover can do and even tried to discover where the inspiration for the design came from.
Now thanks to a review by iFixit we are able to bring you information of a full teardown of the smart device and instructions of how to perform the teardown yourself if you so wished. The site’s aim was to find out information about exactly how the cover works including the materials used to make it.
The article breaks the process down in steps so it is easy to follow. There are eight steps altogether and even a list of tools that were used in the teardown. Step one is a small introduction explaining how when Steve Jobs introduced the Smart Cover he explained how it was manufactured alongside the iPad 2 so compliments it perfectly.
By the eighth step iFixit have the Smart Cover completely cut apart and explain that the process is irreversible so be sure that if you intend on following the steps that you use one that you have no intentions of using, maybe investing in a spare cover.
What do you think of this teardown? Does it answer all the questions you may have had surrounding the Smart Cover? Let us know in the comments if you like.
