LG Optimus 2X vs. Motorola ATRIX 4G: Benchmark Results Surprise

By Updated on

If you compare the LG Optimus 2X and the Motorola ATRIX 4G specifications side-by-side you will see that they both feature the same NVIDIA Tegra 2 SoC, however the ATRIX 4G features 1GB of RAM whilst the Optimus 2X only features 512MB, due to this we would assume that the ATRIX 4G would outperform the Optimus 2X, however this is not the case in all tests.

Recently AndroidAndMe ran benchmark tests on both smartphones and the LG Optimus 2X wiped the floor with the Motorola Atrix 4G in every test but one, you can see all of the test results here.

The test results also compare these smartphones against the Samsung Nexus S, HTC G2, HTC Nexus One and the Motorola Droid, in the Neocore, Nenamark1, Smartbench 2011 Productivity, Smartbench 2011 Games and Sunspider Javascript 0.9.1 benchmarks the Optimus 2X and ATRIX 4G are head and shoulders above the competition, in fact they make the Motorola Droid and HTC Nexus One look sluggish.

There are a few things to remember, firstly benchmark results do not give us a “real-world” representation of smartphone performance, secondly the Optimus 2X outperforms the ATRIX 4G in a lot of the tests because it outputs at 800 x 480, whilst the ATRIX 4G outputs at 960 x 540, one thing that is for sure is that the Tegra 2 platform really sets new standards for other smartphones to follow.

Below we have embedded one of the benchmark results charts, doesn’t it just make you want to upgrade your handset?

i think it makes sense since the LG is running 512MB of dual channel memory whilst the Atrix is running 1GB of single channel. In essence it should be a fair fight….which by the chart, shows that it was a very fair and close battle

Even though not many applications optimized for dual core processor, but base on this test, we can say that dual core processor perform way better than single core processor overall. Like it or not, it seems that I should get a new phone if I still want to use my phone as my secondary gaming device, but I’ll wait until dual-core Snapdragon comes out to see how well the performance if compare to Tegra 2.

Since Australia will have 4G by the end of 2011 I would buy the Atrix because it has 4G buil in.You ca't upgrade from 3G to 4G on a 3G phone..

when Australia gets 4G the Atrix will come in to its own and flog any non 4G phone going away! another major advantage of the Atrix is the qwerty keyboard when matched upto a netbbook.
