Samsung Galaxy S II release date pushed back by two months

By Updated on

For those of you waiting to get your hands on Samsungs new Galaxy S II handset, we may have some bad news for you. It seems the handset is being delayed after two online retailers have changed their shipping dates for the device.

An article by Desire Athow over at IT ProPortal is reporting that both Expansys.com and Play.com have pushed the release date for the Galaxy S II from March to May 2011. There is some good news though, Play have knocked the price down for the handset to £599.99 from £650.

An eight week delay for any device is a serious one, and may be linked to a manufacturing problem. The new Galaxy handset has some impressive features, which include a 4.27-inch screen and an 8-megapixel camera.

Any delay with the handset could prove problematic for Samsung, because if the device doesn’t arrive until May it will bring it close to any launch of the new iPhone. Whether online retailers jumped the gun and gave a too optimistic release date when they first listed the handset is not known.
