Major Nelson has recently revealed that Xbox Live Gamertags which are no-longer being used are beginning to become re-available, the process will take a while, however Gamertags are being revived daily.
If you have signed up to Xbox Live you will probably have experienced difficulties choosing a Gamertag which hasn’t already been used, this should soon change as I would imagine that there are millions of dead Gamertags out there.
It is unclear as to how long a Gamertag has to be unused for to be declared as dead, however Major Nelson has revealed that he will talk about dead Gamertags on this week’s podcast, you can download the podcasts here, however this week’s episode is not yet live.
From what we can see a lot of the dead Gamertags which are becoming available again are from the original Xbox Live era, Xbox Live launched back in late 2002, therefore a lot of gamers have come and gone since then.
This news means that a lot of “cool” Gamertags should be available again soon, let’s just hope the one you want doesn’t get taken again! Remember you can change your Gamertag via the dashboard, it costs 800 Microsoft points.
Will you be checking for a certain Gamertag to become available?
