There is no denying how popular the iPad has been for Apple over the past 11 months, but we all know that the device is not perfect. With this in mind and the media event later today, will the iPad 2nd Generation remedy the originals shortcomings? The iPad has sold almost 15 million in those eleven months, and if Apple gets things right, then that number could increase dramatically – even with more competition.
The original iPad was unveiled in January of 2010 and released in April of that year, and it is now showing its age. We all know how fast technology moves, and the iPad is like a relic in terms of hardware. Having said that, it was a game-changer and still sells in high numbers – so it cannot be all bad?
Apple must know that they need to do more than just a tweak here and there, they have the technology to remedy this, but will they use it? eWeek has a few suggestions, and we can support them on some, but not on others. The idea of having a larger display seems a stupid one, saying that the iPad 2 needs to match the 10.1-inch display of the Motorola Xoom.
We know that improvements needs to be made to the OS, and with rumors that Apple will announce iOS 5, this could be just what iPad users have been waiting for. Dual cameras are another that might not be too much of a bother, even one would be enough – not sure how many people will be using their tablet to take photos or videos?
However, we do know that a dual-core processor is needed, as well as more RAM. Most rumors suggest that we will get the A5 CPU along with 512 of RAM, although we feel that 1GB would be a better option. Improvements to the Safari browser is also needed, as it is not like the full experience that you get when surfing the net on your laptop.
We would all like 4G LTE, and there have been a suggestions that Apple could offer this option at a later date, as Motorola and Verizon are with the Xoom. What improvements would you like to see on the new iPad 2?
