Battlefield 3: New Gameplay Suggests Call of Duty in Trouble?

Attention all FPS fans now, as you definitely will not want to miss out out on the following video. EA has just unveiled Battlefield 3 at GDC 2011, releasing a new gameplay video which is sure to leave you breathless after watching it.

EA confirmed what everyone expected at the event, and that is the PC version of the game will be the lead platform – put in simpler terms, the best version between the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms.

Developers DICE then revealed a demo of the game, using the PC build to demonstrate the power of the Frostbite 2 engine – and demonstrate it they did. The level shown was from the same snippet of gameplay that we saw last week, only this time, we managed to see a proper playthrough of the level, complete with real-life action, destruction and stunning sound effects.

The lighting shown in the demo was simply amazing, and we would go as far to say as it’s easily the most impressive looking FPS we’ve ever seen. We all know that Crysis on the PC was a benchmark in terms of graphics, but we think BF3 may have just blown it out of the water.

We’re pretty confident that Modern Warfare 3 won’t look as impressive as BF3, so we’re interested to see what Bobby Kotick and the Infinity Ward team think about EA’s reveal. Call of Duty has taken the mantle for best FPS over the last few years, but that will probably change with the introduction of Battlefield 3.

Is the Call of Duty franchise in trouble? Check out the footage below and decide for yourself – We’re pumped. Don’t forget to crank up the volume too so you can really appreciate the sound work in the game.
