Motorola Xoom Overclocked, Bootloader boosts performance

The recently released Motorola Xoom is by no means slow, however one developer has managed to customize the tablet’s bootloader, this gives you a 50% boost in performance.

As standard the Xoom’s dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 SoC processor runs at 1GHz, however one XDA-Developer called coolbho3000 has rooted his and managed to get it running at 1.5GHz (per core), if you want to unlock the bootloader and boost your Xoom’s performance a step-by-step guide can be found here, you will need to root your Xoom first, here‘s a simple guide for doing just this

If you check out TechTree’s recent article you can see the results of this overclock, the final clock speed is a whopping 1504MHz, this resulted in a huge jump in the Xoom’s Quadrant benchmark score, below we have embedded a video showing the Xoom being benchmarked with and without its CPU being overclocked, the difference is pretty staggering.

Although TechTree do not mention whether the overclock affects stability and power consumption you should be aware that this may be the case if you overclock your Xoom, also it may result in you Xoom running a little hotter than usual.
