With the release of Crytek’s new game Crysis 2 just around the corner, more information about it is beginning to surface. Recently we brought you the first lot of PS3 footage and have also had lots of screenshots made available. In a recent announcement it appears the latest news to emerge is in regard to the online play.
A report from David2SLY at Gamertag/Radio confirms that an EA online pass will not be required to play Crysis 2 over the network. This news came from a recent EA event that took place in New York.

The online pass has become somewhat of a hate target for gamers, as once the initial online game code has been used on one console it cannot be used again, therefore when a game is purchased second-hand or rented a fee must be paid if they wish to play online.
The article says that Crytek when given the choice opted out of including the EA online pass as they didn’t want to restrict gamers that may not have yet experienced a Crysis game. David2SLY believes this was a wise decision as ‘the bigger the audience… the more likely it is for something to stick.’
