HTC Thunderbolt: Release Date Update – Delayed or Not?

We have yet more drama regarding the HTC Thunderbolt handset on Verizon to tell you about now, as it looks like the final release date is still not set in stone, despite previous reports suggesting it would release at the end of this month.

We have two bits of information to give you now, both in relation to the actual release date of the 4G LTE device. This report here by Phandroid reveals that the device may have been delayed by four days, which would mean that device becomes available on the 28th February, not the 24th as previously thought.

With that bombshell out of the way, a second tipoff by Phandroid reveals that Verizon have a shipment on Thunderbolt handsets planned for the 23rd of February, and that they’ll start selling them in stores the day after – meaning that the 24th date remains in tact.

Which information is correct and which is a bunch of lies? Only Verizon has the answer I guess. You may want to head to their Twitter account to keep up to date on the situation, just in case they decide to set the record straight. We’ll be updating you here as soon as we hear more.

    FWIW, on 2/17 I talked to local Vz store and Vz National Winback group and both said it would be available for sale 2/24. Winback group offered 1 month of free service and said I could order online at 3AM 2/24 and that the TB would be available in local store that day also, but I could not get 1 month free service through the local store (I am not a Vz customer but I recently returned a DX).

    he Thunderbolt is coming on the 24th. Everyone who is waiting will see the heavens open with a bolt of lightning that will crash down on your door step. The new Thunderbolt will then appear. Finally the Verizon gods will have answered our prayers and we will be happy again. WTF. Verizon really dropped the ball with the iphone 4 and the HTC Thunderbolt. It is not that hard.

    called best buy store today where I did the pre-order for two phones back on feb 6th. after being tossed around from person to person I was finally told that best buy was recently informed by HTC to hold off on release and no further information was available on when they would be able to sell them but they did have them in stock… WTF.

    Give me the phones I pre-ordered then fix the issues with OTA updates. not difficult. unless the issues are much deeper than just skype and the hot spot issues.. but if thats all it is then put the phone out with a soon to be fixed via OTA announcement so the phones can get into curculatoin. this really is looking quite bad for verizon on their first LTE launch which will soon conincide with the Motorola. sadly they are now the only carrier without a new 2011 4g phone out on their network and I'm not even going to include the iphone 4 as new in any way as it's close to 8 months old and a POS.
