Battlefield 3 Touted for Game of the Year

First person shooter games are the best they have ever been, with each new one that comes out trying to outdo the previous. Call of Duty seems to be the most popular franchise for FPSs at the moment, but EA’s CEO seems adamant that Battlefield 3 will be the game of the year.

This news comes from CVG who reported that John Riccitiello, whilst at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, had previously admitted that EA and Medal of Honor had lost its leading position in the market then adding ‘we’re after it now.’ He then went on to make the statement of how he thinks Battlefield 3 will be ‘the best product in the industry this year.’

Battlefield 3 is the sequel to Battlefield 2 and as IGN report is due out this Fall. The game uses DICE’s newest game engine and EA say it promises large sense of scale, enhanced graphics, dynamic audio, massive destruction and realistic characters.

Players take the role of U.S marines whose missions are set out across a number of cities including New York, Tehran and Paris. More about the FPS can be found at EA.

    I dont doubt that it will beat whatever the cod franchise throws their way, but they might find some close competition in the RPG genre. (Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim)

    I can't believe I use to hate FPS, only had a handful of them. Now I can say I love the genre. For the multiplayer mainly.

    Just started BFBC2 and Vietnam. Better than COD, but lacking content and goodies. I hope BF3 will make up on this.

    I'm pretty sure EA says that of every new game. Game of the year. I just hope they'll fix the terrible scree tearing from BFBC2. They did a great job on vietnam, no tech problems whatsoever. So I guess I'll wait to see some footage before making up my mind.

    As for other shooters, there is just to much. I'll probably rent on Resistance and Killzone, not because they're bad games, only because I'm not that good on those online modes. I'll definitively take a look at Crysis 2. I'll wait for PS3 footage though. I don't trust the silence on this version. I got a look on the leaked version videos. I'm not impressed yet, AI seems pretty damn stupid. Xbox 360 graphics didn't look as good as the company claimed it would be. Maybe it's just about the environments but uncharted appeals more to me graphically. So i guess it's wait and see. COD MW3 should be the same as MW1 and 2

    COD has a great single player campaign but its online multiplayer is so so so out of date its like playing a cartoon. battlefield always leads the way with the best online fps multiplayer experience. I just want the return of 64 player battles with fighters jets ,buggies and one player each being the commander with a real time sat map.

    call of duty black ops was the biggest flop ever i hate run and gun games they need to be more spread out like bf2

    call of duty has seen its glory days. its only a matter of time. If MW3 is anything less then the greatest game ever made (and not just according to IGN, because they think every Cod game is the greatest game ever made), then ill give the Call of duty series two more years before the same thing that happened to Halo happens to it.
