Social networking is already widely accessible through various different services. Now it’s become even more available thanks to Skype announcing they have extended their Access service to over 500,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the globe.
Skype software already allows users to make phone calls from wherever they are to landlines and mobiles through the internet for a fee. You can even call, chat or video call other Skype users free of charge. But you didn’t always get internet access when you wanted it. That is about to change thanks to this announcement which Slashgear reports.
The announcement was made yesterday at the MWC in Barcelona. Skype’s Access Service provides pay-per-minute Wi-Fi access at certain hotspots around the world anyway and has done since January 2009. Users of this service find this convenient as they can use their Skype credit as they use the service. Now users have greater internet accessibility, more convenience is provided making it less likely that they’d ever need to go without talking to friends or loved ones.
The way in which this is possible is certain Wi-Fi hotspot providers who have a partnership with Skype will allow access throughout the world. Their expansion includes 30,000 hotels and 500 airports. A list of Skype Access hotspot providers can be found at Mashable.
