Leica M9 Titanium Review: Price and Issue

By Posted 14 Feb 2011, 15:42

In October of last year Leica released the Neiman Marcus Edition of the M9 digital camera, and if you thought that the $17,500 was expensive wait until we tell you how much the new Titanium version will be. OK, you sitting down? The price is going to be a staggering 32,000, and just 500 will be made; but is any camera with this price.

The likes of you and I will agree that no camera is worth such a high price, but there are professionals and collectors out there that think that it is a small price to pay for such a beautifully crafted device – that much can be seen from the video review that we have for you below. There are other videos that you can view on Engadget, one is the unboxing and the second is getting started.

Those of you in the know will understand just how important the Leica M9 has been and the number of limited editions that have become available. The Titanium certainly compliments the previous versions, but it is the weight of the metal that gives the camera an even greater quality feel – well that and the Summilux-M 35mm F1.4 lens that comes packed inside its black handcrafted box.

Some of the main features include 18-mega-pixels and dual image processors; but it is that lens that weighs almost as much as the main body itself that needs to get more of the attention. It had been said that this camera would never take an image, but there is no mention of that from the impressive review from DPReview.

How much is too much when it comes to the price of a camera?
