Summer Infant Baby Video Monitor Recall

By Posted 11 Feb 2011, 20:36

We have some interesting news to bring you about children and infant product manufacturer Summer Infant. The company is recalling 1.7 million of their Baby Video Monitors. As some of you may know the company are responsible for over 80 wellness and health products for children ages 3 years to birth.

Some of Summer Infant’s other products are bed rails, audio monitors, booster seats and safety gates. They have produced these kinds of products since they were established in 2001. The recall takes effect immediately.

The news comes from an article from the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission who say that the manufacturers recall is due to two separate strangulation deaths which the Video Monitors were responsible for. The CPSC have said that these devices create a hazard if positioned too close the child or infant because of their long cords.

To read about the strangulation incidents you can view the full CPSC article here. You can also read about a related report from Bloomberg who have news of a separate recall situation that Summer Infant have asked for involving battery powered Secure Video Monitors.

Do you think these types of devices are a good idea or do they create more problems than solutions? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Really, lets just recall everything that has a cord or string then. All electronics, blinds, shoes and lawn movers with pull starters, to mention a few, are now recalled.

I agree with Justin. It's a parents responsibility to not place these sort of things where a child could reach.
