The much rumored iPad 2 is not really a rumor anymore, ever since Steve Jobs stand in Tim Cook announced that the device is coming – even more so since one was seen in the wild at the recent The Daily launch event yesterday. There seems to be new details becoming available about the new Apple tablet everyday, such as its new thinner screen – but how many of those can we take as gospel?
With the launch of the new iPad for 2011 where does this leave Apple’s other devices, the iPhone 5 and the MacBook Air? We cannot really talk about the 13-inch version, as this is aimed at a certain market of customers, it is the smaller 11-inch version. To some on the outside this can all seem a bit confusing, why would Apple make two devices of similar size, only for them to offer totally different things? I’m talking about the iPad and the Apple netbook of course – sorry Jobs don’t like it called that.
Hopefully you can see where this article is going; do these devices have a place in your home, and are their jobs so different that you need to have all three? The iPhone without a doubt is a must for any Apple fan, and you and I will keep buying the new model each year. Then there is the MacBook Air, again this is a device that is a must if you travel a lot and need to work, and if you do not have one, then the choice between the 13-inch and the 11-inch is down to personal preference.
However, it is the iPad that is the conundrum here; I have always said that I do not need one – even though I am an Apple fan. I did purchase one for my wife, but am sad to say that it is now left in a drawer most of the time – wonder if you do the same?
I know a number of people with all three devices as well, and while two of these gets used everyday – iPhone and MacBook Air – I bet the other do not. Now this would not normally be an issue if you were talking just a little bit of money, but we are not.
You can tell that this article has been made a little personal, but you can clearly see for me that the iPad is just one device too many for the home. Do not get me wrong, it is a fantastic device – but you need to know what your needs are.
So what will your preference be, MacBook Air, iPhone 5 or the new iPad 2?
