Call of Duty Map Editor: COD Black Ops To MW3

By Posted 24 Jan 2011, 14:05

One of the most wanted features from the Call of Duty series is the ability to create your own map. The thought of such a thing does not want to go away, gamers were asking for this feature on Call of Duty 4 and were still asking for before the release of Black Ops. Well the game has been out for a few months now and we know that it is a feature that has passed the game by yet again – so what about on Modern Warfare 3? Earlier today Alan Ng discussed about the release date and development update. Sticking with the map theme, there have been reports that the Beta and Forest maps have leaked, but we are uncertain if fake or not.

Having looked back at the history of this subject we can see that there was a way for you to create your own maps, but not to implement them on the game yourself. eHow offers instruction on how to do this, which you then have to send to the developer in the hope of your map making the next game – don’t hold your breath though.

Looking at a Black Ops Forum post we can see that the idea of a map creator was a feature that some fans wanted, they added that as it works for Tony Hawk games, so why not for COD? However, someone else points out that it would only work if you were in a private match.

The Most Voted has asked its readers if they would like to create their own maps, and 88 percent said yes – so maybe the developer should now start to listen. We all know how boring certain maps can get, so having one created by users of Call of Duty would be one way to give maps longevity.

Would you like to create your own maps in Call of Duty Black Ops or Modern Warfare 3?

COD should not get a map maker. They’ve ripped off enough things from the halo franchise already. Stealing a map making (essentially forge) would just be crossing the line.

  • NotYou

Call of Duty does not need a map maker. They've ripped off the halo franchise enough. adding a map maker. (Basically just a forge mode for COD) would be stepping over the line.

  • ash

older cod games have had map makers you had to spend time to do it but they have it and it stoped with mw2.

  • pfft

@NotYou And Halo is a rip off of Unreal so can blow whatever nonsense you're talking out the window.

lol saying that map making is copying halo is a true xboxnob response, anyway it is impossible for the consoles to be able to create maps in the cod engine, map creation/editing has been around long before the crapbox, tbh most of the ideas/software/abilites you now have on the crapbox have come from the pc and modding community

agree with bully2100 on this 1 some folk just need to get past and look a bit further than the box lmao what a nub. There are many reasons why "PC" users wont get this feature but the main 1 is "consoles". There is now just far too much money lost in giving us what we want. They have even half done the servers, which they prob's make money on too. As for the bugs. I have sent many questions to people and they still have not bothered to fix.
"Consoles" have ruined any chance of a decent game being made its all to do with money. Which we were told that they would listen to us "PC" users this time and they have dont the usual brought out the game then forget about the people that made the game eg the communitys. May as well just leave it to the consoles now as this has been well ruined and Activision wont do jack chit for us its time for a new game. The reason why i say Activision and not Treyarch is because every time you get a fault or bug they tell you to contact them and not Treyarch. So basicly Trey have made there money now and dont really care. I could go on but to be honest im sick and tired of wasting my time. FYI the commoder 64 had a map edit feature and that is like 1980's. Get a grip and stop hugging ur box they are crap and made of crap i spent most of my time fixing RROD for a living well done microsoft you have let me get 1 back on the users :D. Just another dig but ever heard a nintendo break or RROD or YLOD(PS3) yep thought so and who has copyed them with the motion sensor ohh yes PS3 AND CRAP BOX GET A LIFE AND GET OUT YOUR BOX

      ps sorry for the typo's

        WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Xbox have have the engine to make a map.
Call of Duty have the engine to make a map.
PS3 doesn`t have the engine to make a map.

They can`t give Xbox gamers a better game. :P

I would say they do need a map editor for this game and all future COD maps. Everyone likes new maps and something like this is what keeps games around for many years. Look at Tom Clancy's Raven Shield. Tons of people are still playing that game due to the fact that there are new maps coming out all the time. I am not familiar with the multiplayer as i haven't played this game, but there has to be a way to get custom maps to work. The multiplayer is also the reason why so many people are going back to the older games. I am looking for a new game to play (host server) and I really only want a game that I can create maps for.

ive mad maps for cod1, cod2, the software is/was called codradiant,

no its not easy, but yes anyone can learn to do it, you need a decent pc, lots of time(i have lots if i dont sleep as much)

ive also built maps for original UT(nightmare editor imo), Counter Strike Source(hammer), and some others, CSS (hammer) i prefer to use over radiant but dont really play CSS anymore. it gives my brain something to do inbetween fragging.

    Finally.

I would love to see an integration between google maps and COD.  Pick any location on earth, import into COD and play that location…..
