iPad 2 Specs: 1MP Rear Camera in iOS 4.3 – Disappointed?

By Updated on

We have some surprising news to bring you now, as it has been reported that the upcoming Apple iPad 2 tablet may only possess a 1 megapixel rear camera, after new code was discovered in the latest release of iOS 4.3 beta 2.

As reported from Engadget, the information has surfaced from 9 to 5 Mac, as they have captured a screenshot from the latest beta of iOS 4.3, which they say relates specifically to the iPad 2.

The line of code reads “Back Facing 1MP Photo”, which may result in the iPad 2 having a 0.3 megapixel camera on the front, and a 1MP sensor on the back – which is hardly breathtaking is it?

Furthermore, the code was tied to the number K94 which is thought to be the internal codename for the iPad 2, since the original iPad was labelled as K48. The main point here though, is the possibility that you won’t be able to use the iPad 2 to take some professional looking photos.

Did you expect something bigger like a 3.2 or even a 5 megapixel sensor? Hopefully we have all got this wrong and Apple will put our minds at rest soon. If the iPad 2 does indeed ship with a 1MP rear camera though – how would you feel about this?
