With CES 2011 now underway it is unsurprising to see another manufacturer showing off a tablet computer, in this article we will talk about the new Android-based Vizio tablet, you can see Engadget’s brief hands-on with this device here.
The Vizo Tablet boasts some pretty similar specs to the Samsung Galaxy Tab, these include an 8-inch LCD supporting a resolution of 1024 x 768, 1GHz plus processor (not to sure what the plus means), 4GB of internal storage (2GB of which is used for the OS), a microSD memory card slot, a micro USB port, HDMI-out and stereo speakers which support surround sound emulation (landscape or portrait).
In terms of design the Vizio Tablet is a similar thickness to the iPad, also there is a similar glossy front bezel, however around the back there is a matte gray finish. According to Engadget the display’s viewing angles aren’t great, however the pixel density is said to be better than Apple’s impressive tablet.
Engadget’s hands-on and spec listing failed to confirm a few important details, such as its Android version, RAM, whether there was 3G connectivity and the WiFi standards supported, one thing which is pretty neat is that there is a built-in IR blaster to allow it to function as a universal remote.
According to Vizio this tablet will arrive in the summer as the software is still pretty buggy, we have no idea of pricing, however it is said to be “very competitive”, which suggests that it will be cheaper than the iPad / Galaxy Tab.
