Xbox 360 Kinect Vs PS3 Move: Who’s Winning The Christmas Sales So Far?

Black Friday undoubtedly helped drive the sales for Sony’s and Microsoft’s new hardware devices. With Christmas creeping ever closer, we look at the recent sales figures to determine who is outdoing who so far.

Yesterday, Microsoft released an official press release stating that they had just past the 2.5million mark for units sold globally. Kinect has only been commercially available for 25 days meaning that’s an average of 100,000 units sold per day. This brings Microsoft’s prediction of selling 5million units this quarter a much more realistic goal.

But not to be outdone by Microsoft’s staggering results, Sony today reported that the Move has sold 4.1million units worldwide since it was launched in September. Three months down the line and Sony are currently ahead on sales figures, but if I’m doing my math correctly here, Microsoft should be able to catch up with the Move in no time. That is considering they keep up with current sales figures.

Both motion controllers have some very good titles that will help push sales even further. Sports Champions, Tumble and PDC World Championship Darts Pro Tour are stand-outs for the Move, whereas if speculation is to be believed, we could be seeing a Kinect-controlled Gears of War coming very soon. A Sony representative has clarified to Kotaku that the 4.1 million represents units sold to retail outlets from Sony.

"The 4.1M units are global sales for the company for PlayStation Move. While we don't disclose our exact sell-through number, the key is that our retailers continue to ask for more Move units and are taking every unit we can supply them with based on their sales."

So there's a big difference sales to retailers vs sales to customers.

I like potatoes…. ps3 will eventually overcome xbox because xbox is just mostly for 10 year olds who cry because they think theyre gonna get banned or die to much… so its basicly more for a family thing while ps3 is more of a gaming hd blu-ray 3d thing it has everything xbox has but more

They are both cool! but i love dance central for kinect and to be completely honest x box for gaming is so much better due to its partying capabilities, but i do like ps3 for its multi media aspects so it depends but for competitive gaming got to be the x box hands down.
