Kinect Sales in Japan – Not Great

By Jamie Pert - Nov 29, 2010

Earlier this month we revealed that Microsoft planned to shift 5 million Kinect units this quarter, then we heard that the 10 day sales figures were extremely promising, however we have now heard that it has not gone down too well in Japan.

Kinect launched in Japan recently and sold just 26,000 units during its launch weekend, this is obviously disappointing news for Microsoft, especially as this figure takes into account both stand alone units and Xbox 360-bundled Kinects.

It is not just the Kinect hardware which is failing to sell well, according to Media Create’s statistics the software is not exactly flying of the shelves, in the week ending November 21 no Kinect title features in Japans top 20 software sales chart, in fact Dance Evolution only 24th place on this chart, whilst Kinect Sports achieved 45th place.

To be honest with you Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has never been all that popular in Japan, therefore it is not too much of a shock to see that Kinect units aren’t really shifting, I’m sure Microsoft won’t be too bothered as long as sales in other regions continue to impress.

well it is simple really, the house and apartments can't accommodate the space needed by xbox to play kinect games. To use the kinect efficiently you will need to stand 7-8 feet from the sensor and an extra 2 feet behind you. Also imagine jumping up and down in an apartment room and you'll find out how fast your neighbors will hate you from playing kinect adventures.
