You may have recently heard that people can now download a jailbreak for WP7 called ChevronWP7, now Microsoft has officially warned against unlocking Windows Phone 7 devices.
Below we have the official statement from Microsoft, to sum things up they basically warn against the worst case scenarios which could occur if unlocking your Windows Phone 7 smartphone doesn’t go as smoothly as planned.
“We anticipated that people would attempt to unlock the phones and explore the underlying operating system. We encourage people to use their Windows Phone as supplied by the manufacturer to ensure the best possible user experience. Attempting to unlock a device could void the warranty, disable phone functionality, interrupt access to Windows Phone 7 services or render the phone permanently unusable.”
As you can see the statement is not directly aimed at the ChevronWP7 unlock / jailbreak, however as this is the only solution currently available it must be a direct response to the release.
Whenever you attempt to unlock / jailbreak a device you are running the risk of bricking your handset, therefore it is well-worth taking Microsoft’s warning seriously.
Will you listen to Microsoft’s warning?
