Gran Turismo 5 (GT5): Problems – Do you have any?

If you picked up a copy of Gran Turismo 5 this week, you’ll know that there are a few problems with the game, notably with online play as servers came under immense pressure on launch day.

Aside from that, we want to know if you have experienced any other problems with the game. We’ve heard that a patch update is on the way to fix up the server-related online problems, which is good – but is there anything else you’ve seen in-game which needs to be fixed up?

The good news, is that we haven’t heard any reports of freezes or anything like that which is another plus, although we did inform you of an early review which touched upon various ‘technical problems’ within the game.

Are the initial launch problems worth getting worried about? Probably not, since Polyphony Digital has already addressed them and are currently working on a quick fix. If you have something to say about the game though, let us know below.

    if you tune a car on GT mode, and add it as a favourites it will not work on 2p split screen,what i mean is is doesnt have any of the tunning updates that has been added like power etc, it like puts the car back to standered.

    My game freezes like there is no tomorrow!!
    when i first put the game in. did the update and install, got to the menu n just froze
    turned console on the off got to the menu again n froze again!!
    so i ended up deleting the install and net update, game ran fine so played for a bit….
    next morning was still good, so figure i try the update again, worked, few races in freeezes at th gt logo after a race going back to the home screen, has done this several times.. but did it again just now, like right this second, turned console off n on, cant get to the menu even now, turned on n off bout 3 times still stuck on the gran turismo screeen…. DOIN MY F$%#ing head in GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, piece of shit, waited 6 years n its crap!!!!

    Yep, having problems freezing. Could also do with a decent manual to navigate the awful menus, if you can call them that!

    Yeah mine freezes too on some races twice in about 2 hours. If you go to their forum you don't see a thread on this. I don't know if their aware of this problem.

    Can not change tires. The racing transmission you can only change the top speed of the car not each gear in the transmission like in previous versions of the game.

    I had the same problems but if you go in to options menu and install to the PS3 it seems to have solved the problems.

    I cannot even get mine too install, its goes to install the update and the update keeps on stopping, any ideas how to sort this ?

      I freeze up too in IB-8. It wont load it at all, and if you do the example run the car looks like it is flying.

    One of my cars does not have a thumbnail for it in any of menus, very weird… Was wondering if anyone knew for sure that if you sold a car it would reappear in the "used cars" section? Was thinking that maybe if i sold the car and bought it back it would fix the problem with it not displaying the thumbnail for it.

    I have a strange audio issue when running the game in 5.1 audio throught an optical wire. At speeds over 150mph, the audio starts to shift from left to right (and vice versa) when steering the car respectively from left to right. As speed increases, the audio starts cutting in and out as the left to right transition speeds up. Very strange…has anyone else experienced this issue?

    A few other problems (more like complaints), standard cars are more like SUB-standard cars – did they really not have enough time to refine these GT4 cars anymore than they did!? Same thing goes for some of the tracks, it looks like they rushed the export from GT4 to GT5 for some of them. Something else that bugs me is the menu layout and the long load times.

    Well, I still like the game but it's certainly not the masterpiece I expected after almost 6 years.

    I'm getting bugs in the license test. The game has locked up and not allowed me to progress to another test.

    Also the music is randomly cutting out during the test process.

    The game is ok, but so many bugs are disconcerting.

    i cant load special events gran tourismo rally at level exp12 the tarmac one, cleaned disc still and tried 3 times, the bar loads but doesnt get any further, is this a bug with the game or just mine.

    loaded game and it said it needed an update from the internet. Download seemed successful – about 20 minutes. The it popped up a Confirm dialog saying "accessing game data" with an ok button and a cursor arrowow pointing to it. No way to activate the OK, game seems to be wating for an OK I cannot give with either remote or game controller. What gives?

    Hdd install freezes (at "1second remaining" sits forever), random freezing in the menus (going to the dealership will freeze it in 99%
    unbelievable they rolled out this cr*p and let ppl pay for it :(

    Video goes black during a race and resumes a few seconds later however the car has kept travelling. Wipers come on by themselves and R3 does not turn them off. Both happen in Arcade and “proper” gameplay. No patch installed yet and playing from the disc not the HDD.

      Installed to the hard drive and still the same issues. Although not a game play problem, why there are no brake upgrades offered is beyond me???

    Can’t seem to get online, try and upload speed 8th patch, freezes at 20 mins. After 10 mins of waiting after canceling speed patch, get to a gt5 home screen with my purchased car in the background and a couple of menus at the bottom but unable to select anything. WTF?

    I haven’t had any issues loading or playing the game but the tuning of the cars is horrible, also would it be too much to have a invite friend option for online play ? The game is great but they need to tie the loose ends in order to really get goin

    - No brake upgrades
    - $20k fully customisable transmission is limited to an 'accelleration : top speed' slider
    - if you buy a part in the tuning shop, and choose not to apply the product at that time, you can't use it at all.
    - where are the goddamn rally tracks? You mean the one rally track in the 'special events'? poor. Very, very poor.
    - smoke effects are horrid – they should have done them properly or omitted them, I'd have expected this kind of blocky transition around the car edges 10 years ago, but now? Zzz…

    Great game, definitely, but those points are irritating me.

    brakes lock up too easy with a G25 Wheel when ABS off (should be able to brake more effectively when off especially for a seasoned sim racer). AI has no avoidance at all will drag you along the track stuck sideways for about 5 minutes before reversing. AI cars are on rails. Load time between screens slow. menu navigation and layout is retarded. I only seem to win cars useful for the race I just won. Graphics vary from good to very poor. No v-sync. clutch must be 100% depressed before a gear can be selected (half way should be enough) also if your revs are too high & no sounds to indicate grinding gears). no head height camera for standard cars. No Brake Upgrades??? classic cars get upgrades that didn't exist when they were new. can't change rims on almost all cars.

    A friend of mine have grant turismo 5 and he was say to me that the game when he try to run it on the console the game stops at the loading screen! some they say that is because of the online feature that suport the game,and my friend though he can play the other games this won't load in the first loadin screen! whats going on? can anyone help!

    I played for less than 30min and already had a list of basic mistakes made in the game.
    If a genie gave me 1 wish now, I would wish for GT5 and NFS Shift to be combined. The driving experience in Shift is just awesome. You actually get the sensation of speed and excitement. Sadly this is not the case with GT5.
    My conclusion: the developers of GT5 lost the plot and the passion. Go back to the drawing board, try some of the oher racing games out there, ask the public for their oppinions and then develop a propper legendary racing game.

    $60 and this is the quality they put out. After update every time I go to the dealership it freezes. How am I suppose to play if I can't buy a dam car. This Sh*t needs to get fixed or I'm never gonna support GT again

    when i try to install the 8 gigs to the hard drive it freezes with 4 seconds left. this is ridiculous they would release a game that's obviously in beta.

    I got the collectors edition today and when i start the game i have to install the latest update (1.05) but when i install it i get the error code 8003051E :s

    I also tried to skip the update just to get into the game… but then it says: please quit the game and delete all Grand Turismo 5 Prolouge data. I have NEVER EVER had a copy of Prolouge in my hand….

    got any ideas???

    When i play, sometimes the screen goes black for a few seconds and then it comes back to normal.

    Was very happy to get GT5 for Christmas, very disappointed when it didn't work.

    Looks like a problem some are having. It just sits at the Confirm dialog box. The only button that will work is the PS button. Arrow won't move and can't click the OK button.

    I have tried it with and without the update. Also, it isn't like I have loads of apps on my machine. I think I have two or three.

    RUBBISH! RUBBISH! RUBBISH!

    please fix the crappy shadows, pixelated reflections on the cars hood in the hood view, and clean up the track view in the left corner. most tracks diplay with unfinished gray around the whole thing. I'd rather have a game with less cars thats more polished. Please live up to your previous standards.

    i cant load Eiger Nordwand doesnt. It doesn't freeze though. im seriosuly frustrated and annoyed.

    mine is currently on the load screen to enter into the menu for GT mode but can't go any further, certainly more buggy than any other Gran Turismo game on the PS2 or even the PS1!!!

    I get as far as the Gran Turismo splash screen during the initial startup and goes no further. This has been happening since the most recent update. Returning game tomorrow if Gamestop will take it back. Bought the game on launch day and had fun with it until the latest update. Now I have a nice coaster / paperweight. Awesome. Polphony fix this trash !!!!!!

    Got to a point after pro series where NONE of the tracks will load! Started doing it when I tried to test a car I bought in practice and now I can get any tracks to come on at all. Why would it just now do something? Didn’t have problems up to earning about 300k. This is bullshit!

    When trying to play the b-9 license console, the game locks up after selecting the b-9 license (Pointer won't move, can't go back, clock freezes, although music continues playing).
    If you go from the b-8 to the b-9 license by selecting the 'next license' icon, the bar indicates that the level is loading (slowly) but just stops when the bar is full.

    Console also locks up when clicking on Slot for new driver in the My Drivers section.

    It also locks up after selecting any A Spec of Special event race.

    Utter, utter rubbish.

    DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME UNTIL THE BUGS HAVE BEEN FIXED.

    Having experienced the console freezing while trying to load various challenges and licenses, as well as other points, I seem to have fixed the problem.

    It is worth noting that when I first played GT5 I could not get online, so some files would have been installed with no updates in the system.

    I removed the updates by going to the game save utilities and deleting the GT5 entry.

    I then loaded the game while being online and it downloaded Version 1.05 again.

    All my game progress was retained and the game has so far run perfectly.

    Hope this helps some people out.

    Downloaded version1.05 and since then can't get the game to laod at all. Freezes on a screen saying that GT5 is subject to terms of use. Any ideas?

    I got the game for Christmas. I have played every past version of Gran Turismo and this one seems to have been developed by different people (i'm just assuming that). You can purchase all kinds of power upgrades to your vehicle but you can't upgrade the brakes? That is very unrealistic for a game that claims realism (they let you play with the brake balance on the tuning option in the garage though). They have an event for trucks but I have yet to see any trucks for sale in the used car section, and there are no trucks for sale in the dealership section. The tracks are few and just variations of one another. There also seems to be a heavy bias towards exotics, a departure from previous versions heavy bias to Japanese cars. I have experience freezing in some menus but it last a second or two. I have always been a huge fan of Gran Turismo. But as scary as it seems, it looks like they have lost track of what they use to be.

    game was great until extreme level. once again they have failed on finishing an entire gt game. r246 has horrible unfinished grafics there and it is impossible to complete the championship formula gt races without freezing. which is extremely irritating because you don't know how much time you are investing in the 6-45 min races before it freezes and hours of progress are lost! VERY UPSETTING. thought they would have finished this one for once.

    Honestly people, I've waited like everyone else for damn near 6 years for what I would consider a crap game to finally show its ugly face. Upon my bringing this game home, I was more disappointed with this game within the first 10 minutes than I have ever been in my entire life, especially after waiting and waiting, all the while Forza Motorsport has produced 3 games and brought more realism to a racing simulator than I have ever seen. I have been a huge Gran Turismo fan ever since the first one but all through the years Polyphony always hypes up the new GT to be sooooo much better than the previous when in reality I think they just went down hill. The newest GT5 is just Need For Speed Shift with more cars and tracks. If Polyphony wants to improve this game, theeir going to have to start from scratch on the next one. Maybe they can call this game a true simulation if the game had a functioning clutch (Forza 2 and 3). Or maybe if you weren't limited to cheesey modifications. I was expecting in dept tuning mods to adjust my cams, individual gears, do strut tower bars, etc, without the fake crap like spending 20,000cr to add a few suspension components and 15,000cr for coil-over suspension… This game was a huge let down for me and was the reason I initially bought my PS3. Since playing this aweful game I have sold my PS3 for XBOX 360 and bought Forza and couldn't be happier with a true racing simulation. Sorry Polyphony, you have to do a little better than make pretty graphics to keep my business and I hop this post inspired people to do the same. By the way if you think the next GT will be better, good luck waiting another 10 years. :-)

    I am not an experienced gamer but decided to buy a PS3 because I wanted to get this game. I am also disappointed at the lack of quality in this game. I am also really frustrated as my game locks up every time I go into the dealerships to look for new cars.This happens if I am online or not. I have a brand new 320gb PS3 and feel I have wasted my money. I also have failed to add my LoveFilm account but that is a different story.

    Man, I'm glad I'm not you guys. My game hasn't messed up at all.

    I'm not too worried about the smoke, pixellation, etc. that people are complaining about, with a G27 and the cockpit view, this game freakin' blows me away compared to all of its predecessors, and that's saying a lot because GT4 was really good.

    My problem is that every time I start up the game it tells me it doesn't have enuf disk space. So every day for the past 3 days I've had to delete more and more just to play the game.
    At this rate gt5 will take all the disk space I have. The other day I even cleared temporary files and stuff from the game. But once again the next day I need to delete more just to start the game. It's outrageous and I see no one else with this problem so far.

    Mine GT 5 is freezing too. When i start a race, the game crashes the whole system, the picture freezes and the sound stucks. The only thing i can do is reseting the console by holding the power button. I have a 3 years old fat PS 3. Im loosing my sanity, cause it does happen EVERY time i want to start a race, so i cannot play it anymore, only if a solution comes out. The new update did not helped.

    I am at level 31 i the A-Spec and i noticed that all my cars have less horse-power than the same cars with the same time, specs and mods that my friends have in there games. And i notice that in the behaviour of the car… sometimes is the difference beetween winning or loosing a race. Can anybody help me with this?

    My fucking piece of shit GT5. After the patch 1.07, my game freezes just before i have to press X, at the start of the game, so it can start loading from the HDD. Is there a patch 1.08 coming in the near future, or should i just take the game back to the store i bought it?

    seems that the graphics definition is quite not as it should be on my system, it looks like a PS2 game with pixels being very apparent, I tried to look up for video settings but nothing changes on that term. I looked at a demo the other day at a local store and the graphics were better than on my system and TV. Anyone has some tips on how I could solve that definition problem ? TV is set up right as well as the PS3.

    Have a problem with GT5 that it freezes in each course approximately after 1 minute, have tried other cars and I have a brand new ps3 and a new disc of GT5. Have also cleared the cache but nothing works, Any suggestions on what to do?

    won’t load any endurance races, doesn’t even show any of the little pictures, when trying to exit to main menu locks up totaly! only got those races to do, very frustrating!!

    Recently, when I go to the dealerships to purchase a car, as soon as the dealer I have clicked on loads on the screen the game freezes up.  It doesn’t matter which dealer is selected the screen just freezes & I have to quit the game & re-boot to continue.  When I select dealerships & the screen displays the choices of dealers available, at the bottom of the screen it states that I can purchase cars to the value of my credits which are shown as 0, when in fact I am currently at level 31.  In addition, when Arcade game mode is selected all of the usual selection is missing (much to my grandsons dismay) and the only cars shown are the cars which are in My Favorites folder, and all these have a red diagonal line through them so they can’t be used. I might be wrong but these problems seemed to manifest themselves after the last software upgrade I downloaded from the site, or maybe that was just a coinsidence.
    Anybody out there got any thoughts as to what is going on?

    racing online, race after race with me the host that started the room. i have a vote track after each race and then suddenly the track icon to change track is greyed out so im stuck with being on the same track anyone can help?

    yes i have gt5 and have had it for over a year now. It had a problem with freezing at multiple points in the game, including certain races mainly in the special events category, entry requirement button and if i do not set my car up properly for a race and try to enter the race it will freeze and i have the most recent update for the game and my ps3 and this problem happens weather im online or off is their anything i can do to fix this or do i need to buy another copy and try installing it off of another disk ? please help !

    racing with a logitech wheel, some cars (specifically the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution) will cause the wheel to constantly turn left and right while traveling high speed on a straight. this does not occur with a regular ps3 controller. Anyone else have that problem?
