BlackBerry Playbook: Price and Release Date Update – Sub $500?

By Posted 10 Nov 2010, 10:33

We have some good news for those of you planning to pick up a swanky new BlackBerry Playbook next year, as RIM’s co-CEO Jim Balsillie has given us an update regarding the crucial pricing of the device.

As reported from Engadget, Balsillie has apparently gone on record to say that the upcoming BlackBerry Playbook will be ‘competitively priced’ and will definitely be priced ‘under $500′. His comments came in a Korean interview which was then intercepted by Bloomberg.

As for an update on the release date for the device, Engadget reports that the Playbook is still on course for a release during the first quarter of 2011 in America, followed by a release in other countries in Q2.

What are your thoughts on RIM’s pricing hints for the Playbook? How much would you be willing to pay for one?

I think it's good to wait a few months after more tablets are released and reviewed. Be a selective consumer.

you do realize that RIM planned the release of the play book to be after the ipad 1 had its quirks taken out and obviously they are testing it themselves inside the companie( i have one haha) there for will have barely any bad thing to have anything said about to them untill the ipad 2 comes out in the spring time sometime and thats why blackberry has always seemed t be on the top because they are already testing everything they have to the company before they release it to public.

$399max. But there has to be some good specs and GBs on that tablet, Plus I want to work that thing without having to jump on my 3G moblie. Rogers is already raping peoples wallet's.

i agree with the $399 price… but with its BETTER performance than iPad, $419 is already good.

Can't wait to have it!! Eeeeeee!!! So excited!!

Waiting and waiting with excitement for the release. Glad it would pair with my BB phone. Beats the iPad hands down at the moment. I just hope that it is still competitive when a newer version of the iPad comes out that fixes all Apple's misses on the first gen iPads.

under 500 USD or even lower would surely tip the scale towards RIM, Apple is pretty much "monopolish" as Microsoft is also been accused. no USB because its a Microsoft technology that is a good invention.

the Ipad is really over priced. with little to gain other than coolness…for those who earn their keep the hard working way..Ipads are simply too expensive for less stuff.

a 32GB Playbook under 500 USD sounds a good deal. hopefully the telecom carriers could make a all inclusive package that pretty much make the device "FREE"…would be a good market grabber.

Awesome!!!! I love blackberry and I can't wait to get my hands on this!!!!!

I think that the price should be around 299.00 to 499.00

Yes it looks like there are a lot of features that can't be done currently with oilbird tablets however cost is a Hugh factor

    HURRY RIM!!! I cant wait

  • bb inside
