Super Mario Bros Creator: Q&A With Shigeru Miyamoto

If you are a fan of Nintendo and the Super Mario Bros we have recently come across an interview which may be an interesting read for you, the interview was with the Super Mario Bros creator Shigeru Miyamoto .

There is a long list of questions and answers on USAToday, all of which can be seen here, in this post I will highlight what are the most interesting questions/answers.

Miyamoto revealed that the reason Mario wears a hat is due to the limitations with technology back in the early 80s, by giving Mario a hat they did not have to animate hair or draw eyebrows.

During the interview Miyamoto also said that the most important advance in technology was the introduction of 3D capabilities, this was first seen in the Nintendo 64 title Super Mario 64, this allowed developers to animate Mario in ways never seen before.

According to the Q&A session Miyamoto’s favorite Mario game is Super Mario World, this was released in 1993 and was the first Mario game to feature a map, this allowed stories to develop and also gave players a sense of direction.

Remember you can see the full list of questions and answers on USAToday, it is well worth the read.

Super Mario World wasn’t the first Mario game with a Map (Super Mario Brothers 3 was), and the interview doesn’t really say that.

What I was going to say too.

I miss those old games I have tried the New SMB Wii, I like it but it doesn't have the same feel as the original SNES SMBW

I do like the new Galaxy Series but it does feel a little childish. Nintendo games seem to target a specific age range and do not evolve with the fans
I suppose I have grown up since I last played SMB so it's probably just me
