Nintendo Wii Successor (Wii 2): Announcement at E3 2011?

By Updated on

Even though Marvell Technology are supposed to be the chip-manufactuer and supplier of Nintendo’s upcoming handheld gaming system — the 3DS, information has come to light regarding the use of the Armarda chip, and it being too powerful to be used in mobile device.

Dr. Sehat Sutardgja, the Chairman, President and CEO of the company has stated that there has been an increase in production for the Armada line for a “major customer preparing to launch a new gaming platform.”

With leaked specifications of the apparent Armada line, it seems that the chip wont be used in the Nintendo 3DS at all. Therefore we can only conclude that the chip would be used in a new console platform, such as a new Nintendo Wii.

On top of this, another Marvell executive pointed out that Sutardgja was not referring to the chip to be used in the 3DS at all, but was talking about the latest quad-core Armada. And as we stated, this would be far too powerful for a mobile device which points even more along the lines of a Nintendo Wii 2-type console.

Does this mean that we could potentially be in for a Nintendo Wii 2 announcement at E3 2011?

Nintendo are refusing to confirm the specifications of the new chip, and if they intend to use it in a new platform as of yet.
