iOS 4.2 Update: GM Download Live – Public Release Imminent?

By Posted 2 Nov 2010, 03:03

We have some good news for those of you waiting for the official update to Apple’s iOS 4.2 software, as we can confirm that the Golden Master version of iOS 4.2 is now available to download.

For those of you that are unaware, the GM releases of iOS 4.xx software usually mean that a public release follows soon after – which also suggests that iOS 4.2 will be out within the next few weeks.

As Engadget reports, iOS 4.2 GM release is for developers only, but if you have a subscription to Apple’s iPhone Developer Program or know somebody that does, then you can also download it if you want to.

It is also a fun time for developers, as they’ll get to preview any new features or hidden tweaks that Apple didn’t announce at their recent iPod Media event.

If you’re interested, you can find the download link over on the Apple website.

are you fCking kidding me, within the Next Few weeks.. so that means i wont be seeing my unlock for 4.1 bb 5.14.02 for another month….

Sorry qimaydog, but Apple won't release iOS 4.2 straight after GM, especially if bugs are found.

I'm guessing you jailbroke with either GreenPois0n or Limera1n, if you had waited for PwnageTool, you could of unlocked with ultrasn0w ;) … I'm sure there will be a solution available to you and everyone else soon though..

      • RAYTHU

Let me tell you something. Pwnage is a tool which can jailbreak and only preserve baseband. Since bb 5.14.02 is the latest one, ultrasn0w cannot unlock it yet. It is said that the unlock for it is gonna get out soon after 4.2..

Cool. I hope there’s a fix for the alarm clock bug! And also an enabling if the fm receiver for radio! ;-)

Anyone know if the battery drain issue has been resolved. Don't want my iPad battery life knackering like the OS update did to my iPod Touch.

  • Hamid

Well I have a battery issue. The battery life during normal use is as before. But the battery drains in sleep mode as you are constantly using it. I have been trying it a couple of days and this is something that keeps happening. I have to have my iPad constantly plugged-in.

Hmmm…that's what I found happening on my Touch. Think I may have to avoid the update. I wish Apple would accept this is an issue.
