Roughly one month ago we revealed that the long awaited release of the Android 2.1 Eclair update for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, XPERIA X10 Mini and XPERIA X10 Mini Pro would arrive in October, now at last Sony has confirmed the official release date for the update.
According to the official Sony Ericsson Product Blog the update will launch on October 30, initially it will be rolled out in Nordic countries, other areas will get the update in early November.
At the moment all of the XPERIA X10 series smartphones run Android 1.6 Donut, this Android version was released back in September 2009 therefore is fairly outdated, that said Eclair was released a reasonably long time ago and an update to Android 2.2 FroYo would have been a lot more popular.
This update is still well-worth installing, there is a long list of improvements it brings to the Xperia X10 including HD video recording (with auto-focus) capabilities, a new backup and restore application, 5 homescreens and a new social phonebook which syncs with Facebook.
The X10 mini and the X10 mini pro will see improved Bluetooth functionality, the same backup and restore functionality mentioned previously, improved automatic Facebook synchronization and improved message content handling.
